Notes
Air fry or bake the chicken for however long it takes to reach your desired crisp level. If you are baking the chicken and want crisp chicken you will need to use a wire rack and sheet pan. A wire rack elevates the chicken, allowing air to circulate around all sides. This helps the heat reach the entire surface of the chicken, ensuring it cooks more evenly and crisps up on both the top and bottom. When chicken is placed directly on a baking sheet, moisture from the chicken (like juices or oil) can collect underneath it, leading to a soggy underside. A wire rack lets any excess moisture drip down, keeping the chicken crispy all around.Panko breadcrumbs are the best for extra crispy chicken. But if you are air frying you will notice they brown really quickly because they have a lighter, flakier texture with more surface area exposed to heat. This allows them to crisp up and brown more quickly than finer, denser regular breadcrumbs. If the additional browning bothers you, stick to standard breadcrumbs. You can use seasoned standard breadcrumbs if you wish, too.
