A nice warm Vegan Dairy-Free Turmeric Golden Milk Tea Latte is exactly what I needed after a couple of grueling workouts this past week. I attend strength and HIIT classes at sports training facility a few times every week. This week’s workouts left my body feeling so sore. By Friday, pretty much every element of my body was in pain.

I also suffer from lower back pain from time to time. So in addition to post-workout pain, I was dealing with sharp pain in my lower back. It seems to always to flare up when the seasons change and when the weather turns cold. Three years ago my back went out completely days before Christmas. It was super painful. I started seeing a chiropractor once a week. Eventually, I was cleared to once a month. I became very frustrated with the fact I have to rely on body adjustments in order for my back to feel better.
I am on a quest to find more holistic approaches to medicine. I am very far from only using natural remedies for medicine, but I know I have to start somewhere. I have heard a lot about the health benefits associated with turmeric. I have had turmeric in curry and other foods, but until now I hadn’t really used it in my home.
Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory compound. It is also often used to treat arthritis. My mom suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. I have witnessed first hand how painful the disease can be. Turmeric helps reduce swelling and is thus beneficial for treating conditions that involve inflammation.
Curcumin is the primary ingredient in turmeric. It is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. Adding a dash of black pepper with it enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000%
This past Friday I had already made plans to stay home and rest. I was really in need of some R&R because of how sore my body was. I decided to test out the claims and see if turmeric could really live up to its hype. I am so glad I did! I drank two cups. Both were fresh from the stove and so soothing. This is truly an amazing comfort drink. It is perfect for the winter months.
The curcumin is what gives turmeric it’s gold color. When you add it to your saucepan, expect the milk to turn bright gold almost immediately!
I went to bed early that night. I woke up feeling so much better. My lower back pain had lifted and the soreness in my muscles had declined a ton. I was impressed. I am definitely going to incorporate golden milk lattes into my everyday regimen. I plan to prepare a large batch every weekend and store it in the fridge for use throughout the week.

Does it matter if you use fresh or can the spices be purchased pre ground?

This sounds good, but I can't seem to place what Tumeric actually smells/tastes like. How would you describe it?

It has scents of orange and ginger. If you have ever had curry, it's a key ingredient.
