Why You Will Love This Recipe
- Quick and Easy Prep: Steak stir fry is a quick and easy dish to prepare, making it an excellent choice for busy individuals or families with limited time for cooking. The stir-frying technique allows for rapid cooking and minimal prep time.
- Versatility/Easy to Customize: You can use a variety of vegetables, different cuts of steak, and a range of flavorful sauces to create a personalized and diverse meal.
- Flavorful and Savory: The combination of seared steak, fresh vegetables, and savory sauces is out of this world. The stir-frying process enhances the taste of the ingredients.
- Balanced Meal: The dish includes a mix of protein and vegetables, that you can also pair with rice or noodles for a well-rounded meal.
What Type of Steak to Use
Flank steak works great for this recipe because it’s lean and boneless with lots of intense beef flavor. This steak is best used when marinated and grilled or sliced thin and stir-fried. Use whatever beef or steak you prefer.
- Sirloin Steak: Flavorful and relatively lean cut of beef. It’s a popular choice for stir fry as it cooks quickly and remains tender.
- Skirt Steak: Skirt steak is known for its robust flavor. Like flank steak, it should be sliced thinly against the grain.
- Ribeye Steak: It’s a well-marbled cut, providing richness and tenderness to the dish. It’s a bit more expensive but adds a luxurious touch to the dish.
- Strip Steak (New York Strip or Kansas City Strip): Strip steaks are tender and have a good balance of marbling. They also work great when cut into strips.
What Type of Vegetables to Use
You can totally use your favorite vegetables or whatever you like in this recipe. I like to grab a package of fresh mixed vegetables so there is a nice variety. You can also use frozen vegetables. Frozen veggies will usually emit excess water in the pan as the vegetables cook. Be sure to drain the excess water to prevent a soggy meal. In general, I have better luck with fresh vegetables or thawed frozen vegetables when preparing a stir fry.
Here’s a list of veggies that work great in the recipe:
- Snap Peas
- Broccoli
- Onions
- Red Peppers
- Green Peppers
- Carrots
- Water Chestnuts
- Baby Corn
- Bok Choy
- Green Onions
What Type of Pan to Use
I recommend a cast-iron skillet or stainless steel pan because those will get really hot and are perfect for searing meat and vegetables, compared to a non-stick pan. I also use a large 12-inch cast iron pan for this recipe. You don’t want to overcrowd the pan with meat or vegetables while cooking. You will run into trouble getting the perfect sear if you do this. Cook in batches if necessary.

You can reheat it on the stove at medium heat until warm. You can use the microwave using 30 second intervals to avoid overcooking the meat, which will result in dry and tough meat.
You can also use the oven and reheat the dish at 300 degrees until warm.

Such a quick, easy and delicious recipe! I substituted chicken for steak. My kids are toddlers and they loved it too. It was a simple way to get their veggies in.
