This Homemade Chili Seasoning Recipe provides you with a list of all of the pantry staple spices you need to make your own blend at home. Use this as a flavoring agent or rub for your favorite meats, veggies, and more.
If you read the ingredients on a lot of packaged taco seasonings you will find things like Maltodextrin and a few other things you just don’t need. Especially when making your own is so easy!
What Spices You Will Need
- Chili Powder
- Cumin
- Ground Oregano
- Cayenne Pepper
- Salt
- Pepper
Can You Use it as a Dry Rub For Meat?
Absolutely! If you’re making carnitas, Instant Pot Pulled Pork, Instant Pot Barbacoa, Instant Pot Brisket, or a host of other things, this seasoning and rub will work great.
How to Store the Seasoning
If you are making a large batch of the Chili Seasoning, store it in an airtight container. I love to use these glass jars for storage. Ground spices usually last for 6 months. After that they will start to lose their flavor. I check this by giving the jar a whiff. If the smell is still potent it’s probably still good.
Whole spices will last up to 5 years.

This recipe is great. When making your chili seasonings however, your list states smoked paprika and in the recipe no where do I see how much nor is it even mentioned. Was this an error? Or is there no smoked paprika in it?

Great catch. There is none, you can certainly add a 1/2 or 1 full teaspoon if you wish.
