Key Ingredients
Here’s why each ingredient plays a key role in making this casserole rich, cheesy, and delicious:
- Ground Beef – The hearty base of the casserole, ground beef provides protein and a satisfying, meaty texture. Using an 80/20 blend adds great flavor while keeping the dish juicy.
- Onion – Adds a slight sweetness and depth of flavor to balance the savory beef. Using a small amount keeps it keto-friendly while enhancing the overall taste.
- Garlic Cloves – Fresh garlic infuses the casserole with rich, aromatic flavor, making each bite more delicious.
- Worcestershire Sauce – A key ingredient for that classic burger taste, Worcestershire sauce adds a touch of tang, and enhances the beefy richness.
- Cream Cheese – Makes the casserole ultra-creamy, helping to create a smooth, velvety texture.
- Eggs – Acts as a binder to hold everything together while adding structure and fluffiness to the casserole.
- Mustard – A classic burger ingredient, mustard brings a tangy kick that balances the richness of the meat and cheese.
- Heavy Whipping Cream – Adds richness and a creamy texture while keeping the casserole moist and indulgent. It also helps blend the flavors together.
- Shredded Cheese – A staple for any cheeseburger-inspired dish, cheddar cheese melts beautifully, adding gooey, cheesy goodness to every bite.
- Burger Seasoning – A flavorful blend of spices that enhances the beef with classic burger flavors, including hints of smokiness and spice.
- Salt and Pepper (to taste) – Essential for seasoning and balancing all the flavors in the dish.
- Bacon – Crispy, smoky bacon takes this casserole to the next level, giving it extra crunch and a bold, savory taste that pairs perfectly with the cheeseburger theme.
- Pickles – A game-changer! Chopped pickles or pickle slices makes the casserole taste just like a loaded cheeseburger.

Substitutions, Variations, and Add-In Ideas
- Ground Turkey, Ground Chicken, or Ground Pork – Swap for a leaner option or change up the flavor profile while keeping it keto-friendly.
- Green Onions
- Coconut Aminos or Soy Sauce – Coconut aminos offer a slightly sweeter taste, while soy sauce provides a similar umami depth.
- Sour Cream or Greek Yogurt – Equal parts can be used to replace cream cheese. Both add creaminess with a slightly tangy twist.
- Dijon Mustard or Spicy Brown Mustard – For a bolder, tangier kick.
- Pepper Jack, Colby Jack, or Gouda – Any melty cheese will work, so choose based on your flavor preference.
- Turkey Bacon or Pancetta – Use turkey bacon for a leaner option or pancetta for a richer, saltier taste.
- Pickled Jalapeños or Banana Peppers – For a spicier, tangy twist.
- Diced Tomatoes (or Ro-Tel) – For a Tex-Mex twist with extra flavor.
- Jalapeños or Red Pepper Flakes – Adds a spicy kick!
- Chopped Mushrooms – Gives a meaty texture while keeping it low-carb.
- Crumbled Cooked Sausage – A great way to mix in more protein and flavor.
- Avocado Slices – Add on top after baking for extra flavor.
- Ranch Seasoning – A fun way to add a creamy, herby flavor.
- Crushed Pork Rinds – Sprinkle on top for extra crunch, mimicking a burger bun texture.

We made this recipe a few months ago and my family loved it. Great on low carb days - one meal that makes everyone happy. My husband put the casserole on a bun to make it non-low carb. Thanks again.

Nicole says
This was delicious. Was a hit with the kids as well. I did have to cook it a little longer but it could just be my oven. Will make again. Thank you for another great recipe!
staysnatched says
So glad the kids enjoyed it too!
Becky says
Mine came out way too greasy as it did not say to drain the hamburger before adding the cream cheese.i had tripled the recipe because I wanted to make a big one. Don't know if we wil be able to eat it this greasy.
staysnatched says
The notes to this recipe state that if you use fatty beef you should drain excess fat. In general, I recommend you get in the habit of draining excess fat from your beef while cooking.
Sue says
Everyone truly enjoyed it. The pickles were undoubtedly a great edition. I will make this again.
staysnatched says
Glad to hear you will make it again!
Jenn says
This was my first Stayed Snatched recipe and it did not disappoint! We loved it, even my picky eater husband. We will be adding it to our meal rotations, next time we’ll have to try it with bacon! Can’t wait to try more, thank you Brandi!

I loved making this recipe. My husband I love the cheeseburger soup but in the summer I wanted a new option. The addition of the bacon and pickles make it really feel like you are eating a bacon cheeseburger without the bread. I served this with a salad on the side. I doubled the recipe so that there would be leftovers.
staysnatched says
I love the salad on the side!
Tiffani says
Made this a few day ago. One of the few things I've eaten more than 50% of in the past few weeks. Although.....since I bought some great brioche buns, I ate them on the buns, but, I nearly ate two every night. So delicious!!!
staysnatched says
That sounds so good!
Kristin says
I really enjoyed making this recipe! These is something about layering ingredients and topping it off wit cheese that makes my mouth water! I added jalapeños for a little kick! Very flavorful and the leftovers were just as good!
staysnatched says
Wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

This has been on repeat the past month in our house. I think I’ve made it 5 times now. Not only do I love it, but my 3 small children scarf it down. It’s a great leftover lunch for the next day, too!

I have made this twice and used 2% milk instead of the cream and it was just fine! Very yummy and easy!!
staysnatched says
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ahp says
Very tasty and easy recipe. I ended up making my own burger seasoning from a recipe online as I saw the McCormick one had sugar in the ingredients (store didn't have the Weber version). I used a brown sugar sub in the seasoning mixture instead. Great stuff! I'll definitely make again and got my burger fix. Thank you!
staysnatched says
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Tina says
Sounds delicious! What is the difference between kCals and just plain old calories. Also, are the carbs listed NET carbs? Thanks!
staysnatched says
There is no difference. Yes.
joanne wiebe says
very tasty. my husband loved it. will definitely make again. only thing is it looked like there were pieces of white curds in it. is it normal for the whipped cream in it to curdle? just wondering. thanks
staysnatched says
No, that isn't normal. That's never happened to me. You should use heavy whipping cream, not whipped cream.

When I say the whole family loved this recipe, I mean the WHOLE family. (My husband is in the kitchen scraping the empty pan as we speak) ha! I needed something keto/low carb, quick and easy that even the kids would eat. This was a winner and I will be making again. (I subbed the heavy cream for half and half because it's all I had.)
staysnatched says
I'm glad it worked out!
Missy says
I love the way this one is made, so much more flavor. DH and I loved ours straight from the pan, the kids put theirs on bread and ate it like a sandwich. This will be in our rotation for sure!

So tasty and easy to make. We serve it with the pickles on the side, to accommodate family tastes. Kids will also top it with ketchup, but it definitely doesn’t need it.

Very good even though I used bacon bits and didn't have heavy cream. THIS WAS GREAT!

Mary says
We love this recipe and have been making it for a few years now. Can it be cooked then frozen? Has anyone successfully cooked, frozen, defrosted, then served? I am open to all advice!
staysnatched says
You can freeze just about anything. Dairy separates when you reheat it so keep that in mind.
Joy says
Delicious recipe. I added an extra egg and a little more heavy cream. I served it with chopped lettuce and tomatoes.
