I have outlined a couple of ways you can make these crispy wings! You can bake them in the oven or you can use your air fryer. The key to get them crispy is to use a little bit of oil. I like to use olive oil and I spray the chicken using this oil spray bottle from Amazon.
Dry Rub Ingredients
I like to use McCormick's Montreal Chicken Seasoning when I make wings. It's a combination of onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and sage. You can also simply use salt and pepper.
You will also need all-purpose flour and grated parmesan cheese. Baking powder can be substituted for flour.
Parmesan Garlic Sauce Ingredients
How to mix the parmesan garlic sauce is the key component of this recipe. You will need minced garlic, I like to use fresh garlic and my garlic press from Amazon, butter, and olive oil. You can omit the olive oil and simply use all butter if you wish.
Add all of the ingredients to the pan so that they melt and come together. Drizzle the sauce over the chicken after it has baked and the skin has crisped. I like to put the wings back into the oven or the air fryer after this so that it soaks into the skin of the chicken. You can wait to do this step immediately upon serving the wings if you wish.
How to Make Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings
You can bake the chicken wings or fry them using an air fryer. The air fryer is my preferred method. I recommend this Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer from Amazon.
- Add flour, grated parmesan, chicken seasoning, salt and pepper to a large bowl with the chicken wings. You can also use a sealable bag. Ensure the chicken is fully coated.
- For the air fryer, place the chicken wings in the air fryer basket. Spritz the chicken wings with cooking oil. Air fry for 15 minutes on 400 degrees. Open and flip the chicken and cook an additional 5 minutes.
- For baked chicken wings, line a sheet pan with parchment paper and add the wings. Spritz the chicken wings with cooking oil. Bake the wings for 20 minutes and then open and flip the wings. Bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Remove the chicken wings from the air fryer or oven and drizzle the wings in the garlic parmesan sauce.
- Return the chicken wings to the air fryer. Air fry for an additional 3-4 minutes on 400 degrees.
- Return the chicken to the oven. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
What Type of Cheese to Use
I find that the bottled grated parmesan works best for this recipe than fresh. I am typically a fresh parmesan only type of person, but fresh parmesan will clump when you melt it. If you aren't opposed to the clumpy look of cheese on the wings, go for it and use fresh parmesan if you want.
How Many Carbs
Each serving has 11 net carbs. If you substitute all-purpose flour for baking powder, each serving has 1 net carb.

Instructions
Oven and Baking Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Pat the chicken dry and place it on a large bowl or plastic bag.
- Add the flour, ¼ cup of grated parmesan, chicken seasoning, salt and pepper to the chicken. Ensure the chicken is fully coated.
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and add the wings. Spritz the chicken wings with cooking oil.
- Bake the wings for 20 minutes and then open and flip the wings. Spritz with cooking oil. Bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Heat a saucepan on medium-high heat. Add the butter, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, garlic and ¼ cup of grated parmesan.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the butter and cheese have melted.
- Remove the chicken from the oven and drizzle the wings in the garlic parmesan sauce.
- Return the chicken to the oven. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.

Air Fryer Instructions
- Pat the chicken dry and place it on a large bowl or plastic bag.
- Add the flour, ¼ cup of grated parmesan, chicken seasoning, salt and pepper to the chicken. Ensure the chicken is fully coated.
- Line the air fryer basket with air fryer parchment paper. Place the chicken on the parchment paper. Spritz the chicken with olive oil.
- Air fry for 15 minutes on 400 degrees.
- Open the air fryer and flip the chicken. Spritz the chicken with cooking oil. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Heat a saucepan on medium high heat. Add the butter, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, garlic and ¼ cup of grated parmesan.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the butter and cheese have melted.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer and drizzle it with the garlic parmesan butter.
- Return the chicken to the air fryer. Air fryer for an additional 3-4 minutes on 400 degrees.
- Garnish with parsley and parmesan if you wish.
Notes
- I like to put the wings back into the oven or the air fryer after drizzling the garlic butter parmesan sauce so that it soaks into the skin of the chicken. You can wait to do this step immediately upon serving the wings if you wish.
- If you like a lot of garlic flavor use more fresh garlic or you can add garlic powder to your dry rub of flour and seasoning.
- I find that the bottled grated parmesan works best for this recipe than fresh. I am typically a fresh parmesan only type of person, but fresh parmesan will clump when you melt it. If you aren't opposed to the clumpy look of cheese on the wings, go for it and use fresh parmesan if you want.
- If you are having trouble spraying the wings with oil because of the flour, you can allow them to cook for about 5 minutes and then spritz the oil. The will prevent the breading from coming off.
- To make this recipe low carb you can swap the all-purpose flour for baking powder. I usually only use a tablespoon of baking powder.
- You can use actual wings (instead of drums and flats) if you wish, you may need to adjust the amount of ingredients needed to fully coat your wings.

As a passionate lover of chicken wings, I can assure you that this is the best recipe I've tried! Is there any alternative to the soy sauce?
staysnatched says
You can use something like olive oil. Soy sauce is for added flavor.
Lex says
WHat can you ise in replace of the buttermilk?
staysnatched says
It will depend on why you want to sub out the buttermilk. Egg whites can also be used.

I have an air fryer and find it really great, quick, economical, & easy to clean. I do not have many recipes so this recipe will help me and they look great.
staysnatched says
Awesome! Thank you. I think you are going to love your air fryer!
Susan says
When you shake the wings every 5 min does that shake the flour coating off. ?
staysnatched says
It can if you shake too hard. Flip them with tongs to avoid the coating coming off.
Jordan says
I’ve tried every staysnatched wing recipe and this one is my favorite. You can’t tell this wasn’t fried at a restaurant. The breading is perfect. Don’t make any changes.
staysnatched says
Awww thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Chuck says
Tried this tonight and liked it. What would you add to the recipe to make it a little more spicy?
staysnatched says
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Cayenne pepper will help. 1 teaspoon is on the mild side (for me since I like spicy) 1/2 tablespoon or more for extra kick.
Anne D says
Was looking for a different take on wings and found this recipe and made it last night. I followed the directions for the air fryer and they were perfect! Will definitely make again - I have to use up the bottled Parmesan that I bought! 🙂

If you follow the steps in this recipe your wings will turn out as pictured!!!. I made one mistake with the airfryer on my first go ? Don’t forget to turn your wings I turned them and everything. However, when the timer ends you have to take them out right away ? or they will burn And over cook a bit ? Use baking soda it makes the breading hold so well and all the flavor yum. This was my first time using the Cosori Airyer it’s amazing and easy to use and clean. My wings overall were garlic yummy crispy perfection with this recipe. Thanks Brandi!
staysnatched says
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Lisa says
I made these tonight and they were awesome! I have purchased Brandi's air fryer cookbook and went with her recommendations on the air fryer, evo sprayer and air fryer parchment rounds- all have not disappointed. Easy and delish! Great recipe

Ashley Garrison says
Ok these wings get 1000000 stars. I’d never made wings before so I was certain I’d mess it up but the direction was easy to follow and it was so easy using an air fryer. Tasting these wings, you’d have no idea that I was the one who cooked them! The flavor was insane and I’m definitely going to make them again!
staysnatched says
Thank you! I love to hear that!
Brandon Taylor says
Made these wings in the air fryer for my friend's birthday. They were so good! We made more than the recipe called for, so we made extra of garlic parmesan sauce. We also poured the extra sauce over the wings at the end. The whole thing was just phenomenal!! Would definitely recommend trying these out!!
staysnatched says
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed.
Felicia says
This is my second or third time making these. This time I used pure grated parmesan without any additives. It made a huge difference in the sauce at the end.
The tips and techniques used are spot on.
The bad news is I always triple this (but not the breading) because my family devours them lol!
staysnatched says
haha you can never have too many wings!
Patti says
We gifted ourselves a new air fryer for black friday based on recommendations on this site! Today we busted it out to make game day parmesan chicken wings. We've never been able to wings completely in our old air fryer because they would burn before they would be cooked. Not the case with the Cosori air fryer and this recipe. The wings turned out perfectly! Crispy coating, juicy meat. And the sauce!! It absolutely makes the dish. We added a sprinkle of parsley to feel "fancy". Cannot recommend this enough. Will be working our way through all the wing recipes!
staysnatched says
I can't wait for you to try additional recipes!
Lennese Semple says
First of all the AUDIBLE crunch heard when i bit into these!! I couldn't believe i was able to make these in the oven. If you’re making these don’t get nervous when you take these out of the oven the first time the recipe indicates and they seem a little pale ( i was). As long as you follow the instructions you’ll have gorgeous brown crunchy delicious wings! Simply Excellent Brandi!
staysnatched says
haha wonderful! I'm so glad you enjoyed the wings.
Angela Crawford says
These wings are absolutely delicious. I was so excited when Brandi noted that these wings could be made with baking powder to cut carbs. I tried a batch made with baking powder and another with flour. Both batches were so flavorful and crisp. The garlic butter drizzle set the wings off perfectly. I would suggest making with powdered parmesan. I found that it coated and stayed on the wings better than the shredded. These are a must try! Enjoy!
staysnatched says
Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed them.
Elizabeth Thornewell says
Brandi has perfected the chicken wing. I've always baked them and finished in the air fryer for fear that they won't be tender. These changed my mind! So good, and so damn easy! I want this cheesy garlicy sauce on everything (and have definitely added it to fries...)
staysnatched says
That sounds like a great idea!
Jaylene says

Hi Brandi, I stumbled onto your site and was pleasantly surprised of all of the goodness you have here. What you do to Chicken wings and fries are very nice since I just purchased an air fryer for Christmas. I have had somebody else's garlic and Parm cheese wings and found them very good but, I am going to try yours this weekend while I'm watching the games. I'm saving this site as a favorite since it did come across as something that is fun, easy and reads very well. Thanks. T
