What Type of Bacon to Use
You can use any bacon in this recipe such as pork bacon or turkey bacon with no adjustment to cooking time. I like to use thick-cut, uncured and nitrate-free bacon.
How to Trim the Stalks
Grab a knife and cutting board. You want to trim the white and woody lower ends of the asparagus. The ends are usually tough in texture. You can read about The Right Way to Trim Asparagus here.
How to Wrap the Bacon
The way to wrap is a matter of preference. I like for the asparagus to be most of the star here, so I like to take 3 stalks and wrap them in one slice of bacon. That way if I have 2 servings, that’s 6 stalks of asparagus and plenty of green vegetables for the meal I am having.
You can also wrap every single stalk in a single slice of bacon. It’s up to you. You won’t need to adjust the cook time.
How to Make Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
Detailed measurements and full instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Wrap the bacon around the asparagus stalks.
- Season the asparagus on both sides with spices.
- Air fry.
Air Fryer Temperature
I recommend 370 degrees.
How Long to Cook/Cook Time
You will need to cook the wrapped asparagus for 7-12 minutes. Total cook time will vary based on the texture you are looking for. I tend to cook these for around 11-12 minutes. This results in bacon that is somewhat crispy, but it isn’t all of the way crunchy. The asparagus has a crunch to it, but it isn’t crispy or soft and mushy.
If you want really crispy bacon and asparagus that isn’t overcooked, I recommend you cook the bacon alone in the air fryer initially for around 3-4 minutes at 370 degrees. From there, wrap the bacon around the asparagus and cook it at 370 degrees for 5-8 minutes or until it reaches your desired texture.
The longer you cook the bacon-wrapped asparagus the more crunchy the bacon will be, but you also risk overcooking the asparagus. Some people like that texture of asparagus! If that’s your preference then you can air fry it for however long it takes to get crisp.
How to Season It
I don’t like to add salt because that’s what the bacon is for. It will provide immense flavor. I do like to add a few added spices. Here are other ideas if you are looking to switch up the flavor of these from time to time.
- Lemon Pepper Seasoning
- Homemade Ranch Seasoning
- Homemade BBQ Seasoning
- Smoked Paprika
- Brown Sweetener or Sugar
- Honey
- Maple Syrup
Stringy and Mushy Asparagus
This happens when you overcook the asparagus. See the notes above for how to avoid mushy asparagus.
Frozen Asparagus
If you are starting with frozen asparagus, air fry it alone without bacon, for 3-4 minutes. Remove it, wrap the bacon, and proceed with the recipe instructions.
How to Reheat
Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350 degrees until warm.
How to Freeze
You can freeze leftovers tightly sealed for 3-4 months. Defrost overnight in the fridge or reheat while frozen at 350 degrees until warm.
