Is Any Alcohol Allowed on Keto? What’s the Best Alcohol for Keto?

Wine has a lot fewer carbs than beer and can be seen as a favorable option. Opt for dry red wines like Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet. For dry white wines go for Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio.

Pure spirits like unsweetened rum, tequila, gin, whiskey, and vodka have zero carbs. Served neat or on the rocks is always your best bet. You can also pair it with zero or low carb mixers.

Will Alcohol Knock You Out of Ketosis?

While I’m in ketosis one drink will usually do me just fine. I’m the type of girl who typically enjoys a few cocktails when I’m out for a good time. A keto lifestyle is completely different. You will feel the effects of alcohol a lot sooner. This is due to a change in metabolism and depleted glycogen.

In general, while on a healthy lifestyle alcohol can inhibit results if you are trying to lose weight. When you drink alcohol your liver will use the products of the metabolized alcohol instead of fat. Which means instead of burning fat, your body is working to get the alcohol out of your body.

Occasional drinks should not harm results. If you drink often during the week or every weekend, you could be slowing your fat-burning process down. Read more about If Alcohol Will Knock You Out of Ketosis here.

How Many Carbs are in a Keto Mojito?

This drink has 3 net carbs (tall), 1.5 net carbs (short). You can decrease the amount of fresh lime to lower the carb count.

Keto Low-Carb Mojito Recipe Tips:

  • I recommend that you grab an actual living mint plant. They sell them at Trader Joe’s for about $2. It comes with soil and needs sunlight and water. I prefer an actual plant over the store bought clamshells with mint because the mint is a lot fresher. The mint that is in the plastic clamshells at the grocery store has been pre-picked. It will be harder to muddle and also will not look as nice if you garnish the drink.
  • Make sure the mint is fresh and is bright green.
  • Taste repeatedly and adjust the drink as needed. If you don’t want any sweetness in the drink, start with 1/2 a teaspoon of sweetener and work your way up until you’ve met what you like. You can always add additional sweetener, but it’s harder to take back if you add too much.
  • Taste repeatedly for the lime and mint flavors as well. Adjust and add more or less as needed.

I just made this without the rum (I'm alcohol free) and also just with sparkling water instead of the club soda and it was great thanks for the recipe!
